The theme for the Global MIL Week 2022 is “Nurturing trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative”. The event “focuses on trust and solidarity as it relates to people, media, digital platforms, governments, private sector, and non-governmental organizations” (UNESCO, n.d.).

In support of the Global MIL Week 2022, different organizations in the Philippines collaborated to organize the Global MIL Week Stakeholders Forum which aims to discuss key Media and Information Literacy (MIL) issues in the country relevant to the theme. In line with this, the organizers identified the following topics:

  • Nurturing public trust on professionals and institutions providing reliable sources of media and information
  • Bridging MIL, civic participation, and digital rights
  • Best practices, challenges, and prospects for the multistakeholder MIL movement in the Philippines

In line with the rationale, the Global MIL Week Philippine Stakeholders Forum will have the following objectives:

At the end of the forum, participants will be able to…

  • discuss how MIL education can nurture public trust on professionals and institutions that are reliable sources of media and information;
  • advocate for MIL as a tool in promoting and safeguarding human rights online and offline;
  • identify the challenges, opportunities, milestones, and best practices in the MIL movement in the Philippines; and
  • propose recommendations that MIL stakeholders can undertake to advance MIL movement in the country.
